Moderator Designate 2019

We are pleased to announce that the Moderator Designate of our 2019 General Assembly will be Rev Gordon M Currie.
The Assembly will meet in Perth from 29th – 31st May 2019.
Mr Currie was born in Dunfermline and brought up there by an Uncle and Aunt due to his mother’s death following his birth.
He says ‘At the age of 13 I accepted Jesus as my Saviour during the reading of the Bible by Mr Willie Docherty of the Open Air Mission in Largs.’
After leaving school he became a Grocer. During this period he completed a Bible correspondence course which gave him some confidence and knowledge in the Scriptures.
His first opportunity to preach at the age of 18 was undertaken in Freuchie United Free Church in Fife.
In 1967 he became a student at the Faith Mission Bible College in Edinburgh. After graduating he spent about 3 years working in both the South and North of Ireland.
He felt called into the United Free Church in 1972 and became Pastor of the Patna Congregation in Ayrshire. In 1976 he moved to Pollokshaws West Glasgow and
while there met his future wife Moira and they married in 1986. He continued to minister to Pollokshaws and also to the Shieldhall & Drumoyne congregation until
1988 when they moved to Shetland. There he had the linked charges of St Ringans, Lerwick, Cunningsburgh and Sandwick. This ministry continued until 1996 and
was followed by serving in Partick Glasgow, then in Arbroath and Carnoustie.
They retired in 2008 to Saltburn, Invergordon and has served on the Presbytery of the North including as Moderator of Presbytery on two occasions. Gordon and Moira
currently attend Balintore United Free Church.
He says ‘We look to God for His strength and wisdom during this Moderatorial year and anticipate His Blessing on all that has to be undertaken.’
